Sharon O’Melia Howard R.D., M.S., C.D.E., L.D.N., F.A.D.A., the owner of Nutrition for Living, is a registered dietitian with more than 30 years of experience in nutrition counseling, with the last 15 years in weight management and bariatrics.
Sharon currently works with patients in weight loss surgery education and nutrition counseling at a Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence, a designation from the Surgical Review Corporation (SRC), in collaboration with the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) that highlights providers who deliver excellent care.
In her role, Sharon works directly to counsel and educate potential bariatric surgery candidates six months pre-surgery on nutrition and lifestyle, then does patient follow-ups at one month and yearly after weight loss surgery.
Sharon is also a certified diabetes educator and hold certificates in Adult and Childhood Weight Management. In her private practice, Nutrition for Living, she coaches individuals to make changes in their diet and health habits to achieve personal and medical goals. She has experience in bariatrics, weight loss, eating disorders, diabetes, gastrointestinal disorders (IBS and celiac) sports nutrition and childhood obesity and family health.
She has been an expert nutrition writer for a large healthcare portal and community, as well as diabetes content provider for DiabetesCare.net. Sharon also developed Robard’s S.T.A.R. (Steps To Arrest Regain) Weight Maintenance Program.
Sharon has developed a wide variety of presentations and web-based training for videos, educational conferences and print articles. She co-authored a childhood obesity weight control program Growing Healthy Kids. She has taught nutrition in colleges, conducted supermarket tours, weight management programs and cooking classes.
Sharon deeply understands that a combination of education, support, accountability and time help lead to success towards weight loss results and better health. She stays informed with the latest in evidenced-based nutrition while being adept at the personal aspects of helping people make lifestyle changes.
Sharon is married and the mother of 2 daughters, 3 step-daughters and had 11 grandchildren.
